SBIR Research Grant Awarded to Leading Augmented Reality Firm, BANC3

BANC3

BANC3’s Exciting Technology Developments Planned for U.S. Army

PRINCETON, NEW JERSEY, UNITED STATES, January 23, 2019 /EINPresswire.com/ — BANC3, a leading pioneer in the Augmented Reality (AR) industry, has been selected to receive the Phase II Small Business Innovation Research Program (SBIR) grant. The grant is given due to the success of BANC3’s United States Department of Defense (DoD) Phase I project. According to DoD, between 50-60% of applicants have received the Phase II SBIR grant.

BANC3, continuing to push the boundaries, is using the SBIR grant to develop a Head Mounted Display (HMD) and AR software app for the U.S. Army and their Basic Rifleman Marksmanship training. This technology will replace the silhouette targets that are now traditionally used. The Augmented/Mixed Reality for Live Fire Ranges project will reduce maintenance and provide advanced training scenarios for the U.S. Army.

The see-through AR prototype development will create realistic simulated human overlays for training. Not only will this technology replace standard silhouette models, it will simulate complex scenarios, including obscurants, different lighting settings to simulate night time, and genuine target behavior. The revolutionary technology will modernize Basic Rifleman Marksmanship (BRM) familiarization and training.

BANC3’s development is poised to transform BRM with new training advancements including: real-time object recognition to address possible occlusion from the weapon sight and other objects, mounted helmet display optics and sensors small enough to avoid obstruction to the shooter’s head position and aim, and accurate head tracking to correctly place the simulated target position in the shooters field of view. BANC3’s AR resolution will also introduce a Location of Miss and Hit (LOMAH) system for BRM training.

BANC3 is dedicated to improving the U.S. Army’s basic marksmanship training by utilizing computer controlled virtual entities. BANC3’s vision for AR technology includes the possibility for commercial applications to provide improved training for law enforcement, sports shooting, and commercial/private ranges. This AR technology can be applied to non-live fire activities, such as paintball and airsoft.

CNC Machines LLC Manufacturing Scholarship to Cal Poly Pomona Student and Donation to School’s Engineering Department

Manufacturing Skills Gap

CNC Machines Manufacturing Scholarship Recipient

Key Theme in Applicant Essays Centers on Early Education in Solving Industry’s Skills Gap

If more and more companies invest in education, I truly believe that together we can reverse the manufacturing skills gap and instead see a reinvigorated future for the manufacturing industry”

— Curt Doherty

SANFORD, FLORIDA, UNITED STATES, January 23, 2019 /EINPresswire.com/ — SANFORD, FL – – – CNC machines today announced the winner of its 2019 Manufacturing Scholarship. Pauline Tasci, 22, of Glendale, California is studying Manufacturing Engineering at Cal Poly Pomona in Pomona, California. The company also donated $500 to her school’s engineering department.

Scholarship applicants were required to submit an essay or video detailing three innovative ways the manufacturing industry can effectively increase the number of young professionals seeking careers in the field. (See Pauline’s essay along with those of the two runners-up here ).

Pauline participated in engineering competitions for nine years and was the lead manufacturing student throughout high school. She now serves as a manufacturing and design mentor for high school teams and teaches students about CNC machinery. She also was a manufacturing engineering intern at Applied Medical, Aerojet Rocketdyne, and SpaceX.
“A shortage of skilled labor is probably the manufacturing industry’s greatest challenge. The CNC Machines scholarship and accompanying school donation is our way of encouraging students to enter the industry and supporting the schools educating them,” said Curt Doherty, founder, and CEO, CNCMachines.net. “If we can support impressive students like Pauline in entering the manufacturing field, then the future of manufacturing is bright.”
“We received dozens of applications with amazing and creative ideas yet interestingly, one theme was consistent: early education is key to addressing the manufacturing career gap,” said Doherty. “We believe this is an area that presents manufacturers with a unique opportunity to invest in programs in high schools that give students more exposure to the field.”

According to a study by the U.S. Department of Education on High School Students’ Views on Who Influences Their Thinking about Education and Career, nearly half of the students (49 percent) reported that family members most influenced their thinking on careers while 34 percent said their most influential source was themselves. School staff and non-family members made up a mere five percent of those with the most influence.

“If students and their families are making these decisions then it stands to reason that the manufacturing industry has to step up and provide the resources that allow students to take classes and receive career counseling regarding continuing education opportunities and careers options in manufacturing,” Doherty added.

Industry leaders seem to agree. Of the manufacturing executives interviewed for Deloitte and the Manufacturing Institute’s Skills Gap in Manufacturing Report, 72 percent said involvement with local schools and community colleges is effective in combating the skilled worker shortage threatening the industry.

“If more and more companies invest in manufacturing education, I truly believe that together we can reverse the manufacturing employment and skills gap and instead see a reinvigorated future for the manufacturing industry,” added Doherty. “At CNCMachines.net, we will continue to support schools and students to reach that goal and encourage our fellow manufacturers to help in their own way

Pavel Rombakh Discusses the Challenger Explosion

Pavel Rombakh

Pavel Rombakh

What exactly happened during the Challenger Spacecraft explosion? Researcher Pavel Rombakh discusses the Challenger accident and theories.

EDMONDS, WASHINGTON, UNITED STATES, January 17, 2019 /EINPresswire.com/ — On the morning of January 28, 1986, the NASA shuttle orbiter mission STS-51-L and the tenth flight of the Space Shuttle Challenger, (OV-99) broke apart after just 73 seconds in flight, resulting in the untimely death of all seven crew members, consisting of five NASA astronauts, and two payload specialists.

After breaking apart, the spacecraft disintegrated over parts of the Atlantic ocean, and also off the coast of Cape Canaveral, Florida.

When thinking about this accident, it’s important to discuss Richard Feynman, a theoretical physicist and one of the authors of quantum electrodynamics, an explanation of the modern physical theory.

Because of Feynman's theory, we now understand how natural law and man-made disasters connect together. When natural law is ignored, these types of tragedies occur.

“The fact that this danger did not lead to a catastrophe before is no guarantee that it will not the next time, unless it is completely understood,” Feynman went on to explain. “When playing Russian roulette, the fact that the first shot got off safely is little comfort for the next.”

“Feynman was able to uncover that a rubber seal on the rocket cracked and gas was able to flow out and ignited the explosion,” explained Pavel Rombakh. “This lead to one of the greatest accidents in American history.”

The vehicle began breaking apart after a joint in the right solid rocket booster failed at liftoff. This failure was ultimately caused by the O-ring seals malfunctioning as they were not designed to handle the unusually cold conditions with this specific launch. Because of this failure in the seal, a breach was caused, allowing pressurized burning gas from within the solid rocket motor to get outside and affect other joint attachment hardware, including the external fuel tank, leading to the separation of the solid rocket motors aft field joint attachment. This ultimately led to the structural failure of the external gas tank, with aerodynamic forces breaking up the spacecraft.

Because of the negligence of this accident, the disaster resulted in a 32-month long shutdown of the shuttle programs and the formation of a commission to uncover the truth, entitled Rogers, a special Commission about by President Ronald Reagan.

“The Commission ultimately found NASA to have an organizational culture and decision-making process problem that had been a key factor to the accident,” explained Pavel Rombakh. "Ultimately NASA had violated their own safety protocols.”

Since the late 1970’s NASA managers had known about the potential flaws inside of the SRB rocket and the o-rings but had never truly addressed the problem to correct it, and they also did not listen to multiple warnings from engineers about launching on that day with the drastically low temperatures.

“Because of the Rogers Commission and the work of Feynman, much research has been done to make sure accidents like this never happen again," explained Pavel Rombakh. “Studies on the Challenger disaster continue to this very day.”
