Airman Spotlight: A career built on service, aviation and leadership
Senior Master Sgt. Jeffrey N. Boehmer, a native of Jonestown, Pennsylvania, serves as the senior enlisted leader for the 193rd Special Operations Support Squadron, 193rd Special Operations Wing, Pennsylvania Air National Guard.
Boehmer began his military career in March 1992, serving on active duty in the U.S. Air Force as a B-1B armament systems specialist. After leaving active duty in 1996 and spending 12 years away from military service, he joined the Pennsylvania Air National Guard in September 2008.
“I quickly realized how much I had missed the military lifestyle,” Boehmer said.
His goal upon returning to service was to fly, an opportunity that came after Chief Master Sgt. Marlin Haldeman, then a mentor and friend with the 193rd Special Operations Squadron, introduced him to the wing’s airborne mission systems career field aboard the EC-130J Commando Solo.
“It was where my interests in service, aviation and leadership truly aligned,” Boehmer said.
Today, Boehmer serves both as a senior enlisted leader and career enlisted aviator. As the senior enlisted leader of the 193rd SOSS, he advises the squadron commander and director of operations on enlisted matters, helps lead readiness efforts across seven support sections and works to ensure Airmen are prepared to accomplish the unit’s mission.
As a Special Mission Aviator and loadmaster aboard the MC-130J, Boehmer conducts pre- and post-flight operations and ensures cargo and passenger load plans meet weight-and-balance requirements. His experience includes personnel and equipment airdrops, aerial refueling, Forward Arming and Refueling Point operations and the rapid infiltration and exfiltration of personnel and mission-essential equipment. He has accumulated more than 2,300 flying hours during his career, including more than 800 combat hours.
Boehmer’s leadership has also extended well beyond the aircraft. During Operation EPIC FURY, he directed a $720 million asset footprint and optimized a 130-person joint team while synchronizing Total Force capabilities and equipment staging. His efforts helped support one of the largest concentrations of American military airpower in a generation.
Despite the scope of those missions, Boehmer said some of his most meaningful memories are rooted in the relationships formed along the way.
“My most memorable experiences have come during deployments, when months of training, preparation and readiness come together in support of the mission,” he said. “Each deployment brings new challenges, people and opportunities to learn.”
He said the relationships built during those experiences have remained one of the most rewarding aspects of his career.
“The relationships and friendships built through those experiences will stay with me long after I hang up the uniform,” Boehmer said.
For Boehmer, military service is also a continuation of a family legacy. He is a third-generation service member. His grandfather served during World War II and his father served during the Vietnam War.
“What makes me most proud to serve is the opportunity to contribute to something larger than myself,” Boehmer said. “I am honored to work alongside dedicated Airmen who bring professionalism, skill and a shared commitment to the mission each day.”
In addition to his military responsibilities, Boehmer serves as a 193rd Special Operations Wing Association board member, supporting heritage preservation, community engagement, Airmen welfare initiatives and legacy programs throughout the wing.
His career, spanning more than three decades since his initial enlistment, reflects a commitment to aviation, leadership and service — both to the mission and to the Airmen who carry it forward.
