Gastonia Composite Squadron Cadet Change of Command

The Gastonia Composite Squadron participated in the time-honored tradition as Cadet Lieutenant Colonel (C/Lt Col) Aaron Mintz passed the Squadron Guidon to the next cadet commander, Cadet Major (C/Maj) Aidan Oplinger. C/Lt Col Mintz has been with the Civil Air Patrol program since May 2022 and has been awarded the prestigious General Ira C. Eaker Award. C/Lt Col Mintz will be attending Liberty University in Lynchburg, Virginia in the fall and will be majoring in Aviation Maintenance Management. He has also elected to participate in the United States Air Force Reserve Officer Training Corps (ROTC) at Detachment 890 next year.

C/Maj Oplinger has been with the Civil Air Patrol since joining in March 2021 and has been attending Gaston Early College and is majoring in Engineering. C/Maj Oplinger will finish with his associate’s degree next year. C/Lt Col Mintz passed along not only some fantastic parting words, but also a tradition that has been part of the Gastonia Composite Squadron for a few years, and that was the passing of the Cadet Commander’s Notebook. C/Maj Oplinger passed the following on to his fellow cadets as he assumed command, “rank up, attend events, and most importantly, make friends like I did with Cadet Mintz.”
